Ska is known for its short-lived bands and a fickle scene.  That’s why it’s extremely rare for a ska band to release multiple albums or survive a full decade, much less make it 18 years.

Nashville’s own a.k.a.:RUDIE has reached that benchmark and will be celebrating at the free all-ages Second Saturday Ska event at Drifters (1008 Woodland Street in east Nashville) on Oct 8.

“No, really. Dang it, I’m not kidding. We started rehearsing in a dentist’s office (hello Carlos!) in October 1993” says the Facebook event page created by a.k.a.:RUDIE. “Requests will be welcomed. Dancing will be encouraged. Fun will be required.”

Their longevity is a feat on its own, but these guys have taken on a charge outside of simply surviving by backing, producing and playing with up-and-comers Soul Radics.

So, its fitting that they’ll be playing together at the show.

The Facebook event page predicts predicts collaboration between the bands. “We are fortunate to once again be joined by OUR favorite ska/reggae band: SOUL RADICS! Expect some intermingling and on-stage collaboration among the riddim rockers!”

Second Saturday is in its second year of existence and showing more consistency and strength than ever.  This should be the most epic installment and provide plenty of momentum going into 2012.
