Birdcloud On the Local
by Dave Sharp on Aug 03rd, 2012
Jasmin Kaset and Makenzie Green of Birdcloud are Nashville to the core. Their lyrical and song structure harken back to a day in when simplicity reigned in country music; their actual lyrics and public antics are straight out of the punk rock records books. With songs like “Warshin’ My Big Ole Pussy” and “Fuck You Cop” they’ve carved out an edgy niche in the Nashville folk-country scene that puts them far on the fringe and rallies musicians of all types around them at the same time. Just take their video for “Fuck You Cop,” which features droves of friends, fans, fellow musicians and top-tier collaborators. Not to mention Makenzie’s step-father, a cop himself, contrinuted to the song (as you’ll hear in the interview).
It should come as no surprise that this interview features an above average amount of rough language and crude allusions, so watch at your own risk. I mean you’re reading a punk rock blog, what else do you expect?
Enjoy and don’t forget to follow the link to their new EP that follows and watch “Fuck You Cop.”
