Can’t Miss: The Features with Kingston Springs and Evan P. Donohue at Mercy Lounge Sat. Jan. 14

by Dave Sharp on Jan 11th, 2012

Whoa Nashville do you have a treat of grandiose local proportions this Saturday!

Welcome back our top-tier indie rockers The Features to Mercy Lounge.  Last time they indulged us with a release party (featuring the delicious Calfkiller Beer) of their latest full-length Wilderness.  The album is an adventure that syncs up with their other imaginative chapters: their live act and music videos.

The foursome will take the stage after some of Nashville’s most promising acts warm it up.  Evan P. Donohue (who’s 2010 effort Rhythmn and Amplitude is one of my favorite albums since coming to Nashville and who performed some unique tracks at Live & Reel) will open the show.  His blend of Buddy Holly/Elvis Costello/any-other-geeky-yet-stylish-rocker looks and sound are retrospective, warm and flush with attitude.

Evan will be joined by his Belmont brethren The Apache Rely, who seamlessly connect indie rock phenomenon of recent decades and the stringy, story-telling roots of southern and Appalachian music (trust me, its there beneath all of the electronic noise).  They really should be playing the center spot on the bill to bridge the gap between Evan’s nostalgic rock and The Feature’s avant-garde tunes.

Brace yourself for a rarity in Nashville’s rock scene (barring JEFF the Brotherhood’s epic headlining bills): a pure top-to-bottom show of notable (outside of Nashville) local artists.  Be sure to stream The Feature’s Wilderness, watch Apache Relay’s video for “Home Is Not Places” and Evan P. Donohue’s recording of “My Odds” for Live & Reel.
